Electoral bond is an instrument to donate money to political parties  and can be purchased from State Bank of India and identities of donor and receiver are kept secret. NDA government rejected objections of RBI before passing the law. The government claims that electoral bonds will weed out black money from political funding but opposition parties and Election Commission feel the bond scheme promotes anonymous funding and favours the BJP.

The probability of the government winning a case more than doubles when decided by a bench with both judges retiring at least 16 months before the election, enough time for the government to reward them. The case, however, has to be of special importance to the government. Judges also strengthened their prospects by writing the judgement instead of just passing the favourable order. Appointments to government positions are considered prestigious and desirable by judges.

The banking industry is in shambles thanks to high level of NPAs, especially in public banks. According to a report by the Public Finance Public Accountability Collective (PFPAC), the NPAs rose from a mere Rs 50,517 crores in 2007 to Rs 5,41,763 crores in 2016. In a period of six months between September 2015 and March 2016 the amount of NPAs shot up by a staggering 46 percent. That they now stand at Rs 10 lakh crore underscores the economic slowdown and failure of remedial measures.
